Florya and Yeşilköy seafront
Florya and Yeşilköy Seafront Day Out with Kids, Bakirkoy
The easiest way to plan a Florya–Yeşilköy beach day with children is to let the Marmaray do the work: start at Yeşilköy, walk the seafront, then ride two stops to Florya. Yeşilköy is the third stop from Bakırköy (Bakirkoy) towards Halkalı, so you can move around all day without thinking about the car or parking.
Walking between the two beaches looks tempting, but the distance and the route can be tiring with children; if you are considering it, check the route on a map first. The plan below breaks the walking into short stretches and brings the breaks forward.
The shape of the day
| Part of the day | Where | How |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Yeşilköy beach | Marmaray, Yeşilköy stop |
| Midday | Food and a rest | In Yeşilköy or in Florya |
| Afternoon | Florya beach, around the Atatürk Sea Mansion | Marmaray, Florya stop |
| Optional | Istanbul Aquarium | Marmaray, Florya Akvaryum stop |
| Evening | Back to Bakırköy | Marmaray, Gebze direction |
Morning: Yeşilköy beach
Yeşilköy beach is a well-known spot for a walk and is usually quieter in the morning. It is an 8-minute walk from the apartment to Marmaray Bakırköy station, then a train towards Halkalı; you get off at Yeşilköy after Ataköy and Yeşilyurt.
Children will want to run and play; choose an open spot away from the busiest corners. Do not make the walk too long and save the real energy for the afternoon. A small ball in the bag and a short game in an open space keeps everyone happy.
Midday: time for a break
You can have lunch in Yeşilköy or wait until you have moved on to Florya; both areas have places to eat that change with the season. With small children, work around nap time: a short rest in the shade rescues the second half of the day.
Afternoon: Florya
From Yeşilköy, take the train towards Halkalı again; the stop after Florya Akvaryum is Florya. Florya beach is a pleasant place for a late-afternoon walk, and the Florya Atatürk Sea Mansion stands on this stretch of coast. If you want to go inside, check official sources for opening days and hours; we have written about the details in our guide to Florya beach and the Atatürk Sea Mansion.
If the weather turns or the children tire of the beach, Istanbul Aquarium is an indoor alternative. Check opening hours and ticket details on its official site for the day you plan to visit.
Pace by age
| Age | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Babies and new walkers | Pick one beach; two areas may be too tiring |
| Preschool | Both beaches, but short walks and long breaks |
| Primary school | Both beaches and the aquarium can work in one day |
| Teenagers | Draw the route together and let them choose the photo stops |
What to pack
- Istanbulkart
- Water and snacks
- A hat and a light extra layer; it is often windy on the beach
- A change of clothes and a small towel
- Wet wipes
- A small ball or a favourite toy
Safety notes
- Keep children close to you near the water; wet rocks can be slippery.
- If you are thinking of swimming, read the official notices for that period beforehand.
- On a crowded Marmaray train, hold your child's hand and move towards the doors early.
- Put a small note with your phone number in your child's pocket.
Travelling on the Marmaray with children
On this plan you get on the train three times in a day: Bakırköy to Yeşilköy, Yeşilköy to Florya, and Florya back to Bakırköy. Each ride is short, but every boarding and exit needs attention with children. Keep them away from the platform edge and push the buggy on and off yourself first. The stops come one after another, so tell the children which stop is yours; counting them down becomes a small game and everyone is ready to get off.
If the weather turns
A beach day depends on the weather. If it is windy or raining in the morning, skip the Yeşilköy part and go straight to Florya Akvaryum station for some time indoors. If it clears in the afternoon, get off one stop further at Florya and walk down to the beach. If it never clears, heading back to Bakırköy and spending the evening around the shopping streets or at Capacity shopping mall is a good option too.
Evening and where to stay
On the way back, take the train from Florya towards Gebze and get off at Bakırköy; it is an 8-minute walk from the station to our place in Zeytinlik neighbourhood. In the Two-bedroom apartment (2+1) or the One-bedroom apartment (1+1) you can cook dinner in your own kitchen and let tired children relax in the comfort of a flat. The building has a lift, so getting a sleeping toddler upstairs with the buggy is easy too. See the apartments page for the options, and a one-day family plan in Florya for an aquarium-centred day. Common questions
How do I get from Yeşilköy to Florya?
Take the Marmaray from Yeşilköy towards Halkalı. Florya Akvaryum is the first stop and Florya is the second. If you would rather walk, check the route on a map before you set off.
Can I visit both beaches with a baby?
It is possible but can be tiring. With a baby or a child who has just started walking, choose one beach and take longer breaks for a more relaxed day.
